I'm not big on birds, as some of you may know, but I couldn't resist snagging one of the soda bottle bird feeders from the store. We have cats. The cats are bored this time of year--they just lie on the bed and look out the back window for hours. The bunnies and squirrels that normally amuse them are on the down-low in the winter. So I thought I'd try a bird feeder. Now they just watch for the birdies. It took a couple of days for the birds to find the feeder, but now that they have, the seed has been going down about an inch a day. I think that Shirley (the cat in the pictures) has a new hobby. Great use for an old soda bottle, too! Luckily, the squirrels haven't discovered the bird feeder yet, but if they do, they'll have a hard time trying to get on it! It's hanging from a curved metal awning without so much as a tree branch nearby.

Laurie loves birds--ha ha! Pop botttle feeder a great idea. I will now use your blog to ramble on product packaging, one of my obsessions. Is it a new thing that you can buy the normal scotch tape plastic thingy to refill like a serious dispenser? If so, this is a good development. Just buy the plastic part once; after you've got it, you only need to get the roll of tape itself. So how about dental floss? Does anyone sell refillable floss? Maybe all hard packaging will someday have a deposit, like drink bottles should(and do in more sensible states). Whatever manufacturers are first on board with the refill/reuse revolution should tell the world. Feature these improvements in your marketing! Lots of people aren't aware of the alternatives.

I don't know why it said anonymous--don't think I selected that. Here's an idea for your store. Have a contest for objects made with re-used materials. Like for instance packaging doo-dads. I think kids would enjoy it, and so would I. Maybe I could win a gift certificate!
Update on the birds: Now there are so many of them, they fight for a perch--this is endlessly entertaining for the cats. They can now empty the feeder in less than 24 hours. Although the squirrels can't get to the feeder, they have discovered that birds are sloppy eaters and there is plenty of feeder fallout on the ground for them.
